چکیده

The effects of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VFI) or clefting on acoustic frequency–modal characteristics of human supraglottal spaces are investigated. Finite element (FE) modelling is supported by experimental investigation using a physical model of the vocal and nasal tract fabricated by the rapid prototyping technique from the FE model. The FE model was developed from magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the subject during phonation. Finally the influence of the VFI on phonation of the vowel /a/ is numerically simulated in time domain and supported by clinical investigation.

نتایج درمانی تزریق توام پلاسمای غنی از پلاکت و چربی در بیماران مبتلا به نارسایی ولوفارنژیال

Background: Velopharyngeal insufficiency causes hypernasal vocal quality and can also result in audible nasal air emission and difficulty in producing pressure consonants. The resulting speech is often socially unacceptable and can be difficult to understand. Platelet-rich plasma is an autologous derivative of whole blood. Today, the importance of clinical use of Platelet-rich plasma in the pla...

Velopharyngeal insufficiency studied using finite-element models of male vocal tract with experimental verification

Finite element (FE) models of acoustic spaces corresponding to the human nasal and vocal tract for vowel /a/ are used for numerical simulations. Simplified FE model of the vocal tract for English vowel was created from geometrical data published in literature and for the Czech vowel by transferring data directly from MRI images. The nasal cavities were added to the models manually according to ...

Quantitative Analysis of Velopharyngeal Movement by Applying Principal Component Analysis to Range Images Produced by a Three-Dimensional Endoscope

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop a new technique for analyzing velopharyngeal movement and to investigate its utility. Materials and Methods: Velopharyngeal motion of 20 normal individuals was analyzed. A three-dimensional (3D) endoscope was inserted into the oral cavity, and the movement of the soft palate was measured using an exclusive fixation device. Range images of the...

The Effect of English Vowel-Recognition Training on Beginner and Advanced Iranian ESL Learners

This study was an attempt to investigate the effect of vowel-recognition training on beginner and advanced Iranian ESL learners. A total of 36 adult Iranian ESL learners (18 advanced and 18 beginners) who were students of various majors at Memorial University (MUN) were recruited for the study. Advanced participants had the experience of living in Canada for at least three years while beginners...

Introduction: The most common type of velopharyngeal valve (VPV) closure is a matter of controversy. The aim of this study was to estimate the most common type of VPV closure, including identification of the type and grade of VPV closure among Egyptian children.  Materials and Methods: This study included patients who were candidates for adenotonsillectomy. In these cases, video-nasoendoscopy an...
